Health Services

The HCC is excited to announce referring students to Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) starting Aug. 17, 2020. This will ensure that students receive expanded comprehensive health services, including COVID-19 screening referrals. If you need medical care, please review this helpful guidance on how to access treatment.

Because BSWH is equipped to both manage a larger case load and diagnose and treat complex cases, more students will be able to be seen and cared for in a timely manner. BSWH will prioritize all St. Edward’s University cases when scheduling appointments.

BSWH is conveniently located downtown — just three miles from campus. The address is:

If you have transportation limitations and need assistance getting downtown, please call the HCC at 512-448-8538 and ask to speak with our clinical case manager. We will be offering transportation at no cost to the student for those that need it.

Telemedicine Appointments

While telemedicine appointments are available, options vary based on your health insurance provider.

Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)

Students under the university health insurance plan have access to telemedicine at no charge as part of their United Healthcare medical plan. Visit your UHCSR account for more information.

Non-SHIP (i.e., covered by other insurance providers)

Students with their own private insurance may either access the BSWH clinic for telemedicine services and pay their insurance's copay, or use UHCSR’s telemedicine service and pay a $40 copay — it’s your choice which option you select.

Students who have their own private insurance are also encouraged to consider using telemedicine options that their insurance company may provide. 

In-person Clinic Appointments

Both SHIP and Non-SHIP students that require an in-person medical appointment (e.g. physicals, sexually transmitted disease services, immunizations, etc.) will be referred to the BSWH downtown clinic or their nearest BSWH clinic. SHIP students will be charged the reduced $15 copay at any of the BSWH locations. Non-SHIP students will be responsible for paying their private insurance's copay.

Counseling Services 

In light of COVID-19, we must prioritize both student and staff health and safety; therefore, the HCC will continue to primarily offer remote services for counseling through Fall 2020. To get started with counseling, please call our main number (512) 448-8538 during business hours.

If you are struggling during this unprecented time, we encourage you to review these coping strategies put together by the counseling team in collaboration with Recreation and Wellness.

Telecounseling

The following services will be offered remotely by our HCC staff: initial triage assessment, single session, stabilization and referral, drop-in counseling workshops, case management and crisis assistance.

Please note: Limited intake evaluations and short-term individual counseling are offered based on availability. Students needing long-term individual counseling will continue to be referred off campus for services depending on clinical need and appropriateness.

Another resource available to students is the health services company, Optum. Optum is opening its Emotional Support Help Line, which will provide access to trained mental health specialists who support individuals experiencing anxiety or stress stemming from COVID-19. Optum’s toll-free help line number, 866-342-6892, will be open 24/7 for as long as necessary. The service is free of charge and open to anyone.

Students with the Student Health Insurance Plan may also continue to access the telecounseling resources offered by our partners, Academic Health Plans. Through the Student Assistance Program, students have free access to unlimited assessment, counseling and individual crisis intervention. This resource is available 24/7 via phone, text, video, email and private chat. For more information, please call 1-855-850-4301.

In-person Services

Starting Aug. 17, 2020 crisis services will be offered on campus during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.).
